As you all know, the eyes are the ultimate window to the soul. Being that mine are fairly light, in stark contrast to my dark brows and hair, I’d like to think that I have an even better reason to accentuate my windows accordingly. Cue my next adventure on the beauty frontier- lash extensions! With a desire to ditch the mascara wand, and bring some drama to my peepers before my first show, I went to the experts at the Courtney Akai Lash Boutique in Soho to lash out, so to speak.
The space is adorable, warm, inviting, and all done up in bright pink. Upon entry you are invited to partake in a bit of champagne while you wait for service.
I met with Ellen, one of the salon’s skilled experts, who discussed my extension options. I learned that there are two types of extensions- mink and silk, with varying degrees of curl and length. After emphasizing my need for not-too over the top drama, Ellen and I decided on 14 mm curled silk lashes. That done, we were off.
I lay back on a table with my eyes closed, as Ellen painstakingly glued each extension to my lashes, stopping every 30 minutes or so to blow cool air on my eyes, and ensure that everything was dried and setting correctly. I am not going to lie, I was getting a bit antsy laying still and being unable to open my eyes, but after 2 hours, and much effort on Ellen’s part, we were done. I of course forgot about the antsiness when I saw just how awesome my new lashes looked.
Wear on these has been a dream. I find myself not needing as much makeup, because my eyes already look polished and finished, and it is so incredibly nice not to have to wash off mascara each and every single evening. All in all, I think I’m hooked!
