Clash of the Mascara Titans, with MAC, Fusion Beauty, Lancôme, and L’Oreal

    By: Adina

    Mascara Battle

In today’s saturated mascara market, there is always room for the next big thing. If you are anything like me, you hop from tube to tube in a grand effort to bring your lashes to new heights- able to leap tall buildings, outrun a locomotive, and all that jazz. Meet four (four!) new contenders on the beauty block: from drugstore to beauty counter, these are the mascaras that promise to make your lashes go from wimpy to wonderful.

Up for battle today we have 4 new additions to my already burgeoning mascara cup: MAC Opulash Optimum Black- the newest addition to the MAC mascara lineup, Fusion Beauty Stimulash- a two in one that enhances the fringe while providing lash lengthening properties, over time, Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Lashes- which lifts and separates lashes for a wide (doll)- eyed look, and  L’Oreal Voluminous Ultra Black- a new shade of a drugstore staple that creates thick, fat, blacker than black lashes.

So what are they all about, how do they work, and will they buy you dinner? Find out the answers to these questions and more, below!

    MAC Opulash Optimum Black Mascara

    MAC Opulash Optimum Black Mascara

MAC Opulash Optimum Black is the newest addition to MAC’s Opulash family, an intensely black formula designed to offer up volume, lash fanning, and curl, all with the added bonus of long-lasting (15 hours, to be precise) wear.

I will start by saying that I had never really thought of MAC as a serious contender in the mascara market. After a less than positive experience with a tube of old school Zoom Lash, I had written off the MAC mascaras, until now. Opulash Optimum Black brings me amazing definition, length, and just the right amount of volume to bring me well through my 5:00 AM-9:30 PM days. Like my beloved closet of LBD’s the blacker than black formula only flatters.

    StimuLASH Fusion Mascara

    StimuLASH Fusion Mascara

Fusion Beauty’s StimuLash Fusion is the ultimate two-fer, a mascara infused with peptides that strengthen, condition, and enrich the lashes. The flexible brush is designed to capture each and every lash, separating as it goes.

Everyone wants thick, full, lush lashes, and I am certainly no exception to the rule. Special for its unique, lash fortifying quality over time, StimuLash Fusion was obviously a mascara I had to commit to over the course of several weeks. With each use I felt like I was actually doing good for my lashes. After three weeks of using only this mascara (not an easy thing to commit to, I’ll say that much), I noticed that  my lashes felt softer, looked fuller, and dare I say it, even grew in a noticeable way.

    Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara

    Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara

Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Lashes has the coolest brush of the bunch, a three dimensional cone designed to reach each and every lash. The overall goal is a wide-eyed effect, with lengthened, curled, fanned-out lashes from corner to corner.

Happily, this mascara does exactly what it promised it would. With just two coats I am looking wide eyed, bright eyed, and deliciously coquettish. Count me a huge fan of the flirty, fanned look this mascara creates.

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Carbon Black

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Carbon Black

L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black- Voluminous Carbon Black Volume is exactly what the name implies, a blacker than black formula for rich, dense, fat black lashes. Coming in at a mere pricetag of $7.25, this is the most affordable mascara of the bunch.

Voluminous Carbon Black is instant thickening gratification. Offering up amplification, this formula did my smoky eye look so much right. Unfortunately, I did notice a bit of flaking after about 5 hours of wear, which has been the case with most drugstore mascaras I’ve tried. What Voluminous Million Lashes Carbon Black loses in its extended wear time however, it makes up for in its teeny tiny price-point.

So which one is the best, why that all depends on how you view it. Personally, I feel that each one gives somewhat different results.

Here is a handy dandy summary chart:

Opulash StimuLash Hypnôse Doll Lashes Voluminous Carbon Black
    Lengthening A B+ B+ B+
    Curling B B A B
    Thickening A B B A
    Price $15 $28 $25 $7.25
    Ease of Use A A A A
    Delivery System A B+ A A
    Overall Rating A B+ B A

All in all, I didn’t find a bad mascara in the bunch. Find your perfect match in one of these, today.

How have I NOT tried StimuLASH Fusion Mascara yet? I so suck. Great post, darling! But of course I would love it. Ha!
