Readers, I do not embellish or exaggerate when I say that I am obsessed with makeup brushes. From synthetics to naturals, kabukis to stipples, my personal collection boasts over 100 brushes (and growing!). That being said, I have some new additions to share. Both are affordable, and both are great in their own way.
When it comes to beauty tools that work, leave it to makeup artist and one half of the wildly popular Youtubing pair of Pixiwoos, Sam Chapman, to create a line of brushes that do just that, work. Real Techniques is a new line of brush essentials, designed to work as hard as you do.
I recently had the opportunity to take some of these brushes for a test-drive. Thus far, I am liking them. The fibers are synthetic Taklon and cruelty-free, which is a huge plus. They apply my makeup beautifully, and look pretty snazzy while doing so.
This slanted kabuki does double duty, highlighting and defining. Conveniently, It folds out for easier storage.
The travel essentials kit includes a foundation brush, a shadow brush, and a neat multi-tasking brush for all of the above.
If I had a gripe about these brushes, it’s that the fibers can feel a bit rougher than what I am used to. I’ve generally found Taklon to be a bit finicky, so I combat by conditioning and rinsing after my traditional brush cleansing. Otherwise, they all get a thumbs up from me!
The complete Techniques brush line is available both online, and at your local Ulta.
Not a new brand, but definitely some new additions to an already stellar line, these EcoTools by Alicia Silverstone brush sets are as adorable as they are functional.
This new basics kit includes a blush brush, a mini foundation brush, a mini powder brush, a detailed eye shading brush, and a spoolie. The soft synthetic fibers feel great on the skin, and are especially wonderful for creamier products. I love the extra storage space I get with the case, too.
Perfect for toting everything from pencils to brushes, the Pencil Case looks and feels fantastic.
If ever there was a brand that has the environment in mind, EcoTools would be it. All EcoTools products, including this Alicia Silverstone line are available both online, and at your local Target.

Love this post…. Brushes are a favorite tool of mine …. Great choices,
I’ve had my eye on EcoTools for awhile so I’m loving the Alicia Silverstone line. Can’t wait until Target comes to Canada
Cheryl, it’s a wonderful line for those on a budget. Great if you are a nature lover, too!
Rosalina, thank you so much. I will try to bring you more posts like it!
Two of my favorite brushes of all time are Ecotools: the blush brush you show in this post, and the one you call a ‘mini powder’ brush (I actually use it for eyeshadow) – both incredibly soft and cut perfectly for use on the face. I too am a brush (and Pixiewoo) lover, and can’t wait to try Samantha Chapman’s brushes! Thank you for the post!
Luna, you are so very welcome!
