Look Ma, I’m on TV. A Hair Color Overhaul with Aveda.

    By: Adina

When it comes to hair color, I have developed a reputation -at least in my own mind- for being a bit fickle. I am hopelessly devoted to RED hair, but can never decide on the exact shade I want to dye it for KEEPS. Like clockwork, I go to the salon for a single process in the red du jour, and immediately fall in love with the result. Also like clockwork, I become bored of the shade 2 weeks later, and begin counting down the weeks until my next color session.

I have a feeling that all of that has changed now. You see, I had a salon experience of epic proportions, with none other then the mass of awesome that is the Color Director for the North American Team of the Aveda Institute, Ian Michael Black. A superstar in the world of color, Ian has won numerous awards, and colored the manes of many a model. His impressive resume considered, imagine my excitement then at being chosen to be one of his models.

Even better, my hair color journey was broadcast live, for the entire world to see. For the first time ever, Aveda hosted a live-streamed demonstration, so that fans could watch Aveda magic happen to four bloggers in real time, while asking the Pros questions via Twitter and Facebook.

with my new mane man, Ian Michael Black

To sum it all up, I placed my lackluster mane in Ian’s skilled hands for the entire world to see, and emerged with deliciously rich, lustrous, deep Bordeaux hair. As I sit here and type this, I have to pinch myself, because I still cannot believe how amazing the whole experience was overall. I am not quite sure how he did it, but Ian captured the EXACT look I wanted, and it was absolutely magical.

    Ta Da!

Now enough of my yapping, let’s get to the fun part. If you missed the Livestream, you can still tune in and watch. Simply go to Aveda’s Facebook page, click ‘like’, and then go to the livestream tab. Then, watch the fun unfold! From color to reveal, it is all there to see. In addition, a few of my fellow bloggers experienced some magic of their own in different ways, which you can also see in the video.

Go watch, and tell me what you think! If you have had a similarly life-altering hair color experience, I’d love to read about it in the comments.

As I read your story about always being on a neverending journey to find that perfect red, I almost thought I was reading the story of my life. 2 peas in a pod. That’s a scary concept for you. I have long red hair, about 40 inches long. I practically sit on it and surprisingly, with all the damaging processes I’ve subjected it to over the years, my hair really looks pretty amazing. Regardless of how red it is, I hear this litle voice in the back of my head screaming go more red, MORE RED. And as a natural redhead to the rest of the world, I used to do upkeep of my roots every 2 weeks until it became prohibitively expensive and started damaging and drying out my hair. I would love to have more dimension in my hair, a full set of highlights, red, not blonde, that looks gorgeous but completely natural. I think its harder to find a great hairdresser than a husband. Given the choice between the two,, I certainly would choose my hairdresser. When you can find someone who actually listens to you, makes suggestions but NEVER surprises the client with a whole new do, someone who knows how to transform your hair from Drab to Fab, who understands what look you are seeking and knows how to deliver, and most importantly, someone who knows how to make a redhead absolutely breathlessly gorgeous, then I know Prince Charming really does exist. I have to say that your hair looks absolutely gorgeous. The colors are incredibly subtle but extremely rich, enhancing all your other facial features.. I think youve finally met your Prince.
