Fragrance goes beyond just scents, ingredients, and notes. A good fragrance will transport you outside of your body, and take both your heart and soul on a journey of  olfactive-inspired sensation. The scent receptors in the nose have the power to transport us to another time and place entirely, which is what makes the fragrance experience both exciting and necessary. Our journey today will bring us to the very heavens above, with Thierry Mugler’s Classic, Angel.

Angel is an incredibly unique fragrance, deliciously sweet, and feminine, reminding me of the innocence of youth. With each spray, I cannot help but be transported to a land of blue skies, fluffy white clouds, and an environment emanating utter serenity. Certainly, if an Angel had a scent, this would be it: a fragrance that is dreamy, sweet, and poignant, all at once. It is classified as an Oriental primarily, though I get strong hints of vanilla and musk.

Upon closer inspection, Angel can certainly be labeled as a gourmand scent, as most of the notes read just like ingredients from a cookbook. Melon, coconut, mandarin orange, cassia, jasmine, bergamot and cotton candy sit at the top, while honey, apricot, blackberry, plum, orchid, peach, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, red berries and rose make up the middle. The base is heavily influenced by tonka bean, amber, vanilla, patchouli, musk, vanilla, dark chocolate and caramel. If Angel were a food, it would be a rich custard, with its lighter than air texture and rich, delicious flavor.

The bottle is moonlight and heavens, a crystal flacon shaped like a star. The silver cap like a halo, Angel’s bottle emanates light in a rather profound way. Holding the bottle, it has a certain fragility to it that is delicately beautiful.
