I must confess that I am a bit tardy to the NARS fall party, but boys and girls, do I have a treat to make it up to you! I had the opportunity to have a chat with NAR’s very own Senior Artist- Janice Daoud, and she gave me the inside scoop. Read on for tips, tricks, and of course the photos you have all come to love.
- In a sentence, can you describe the look and feel of the new fall collection?
Old Hollywood meets futuristic, which is a mixture of intense, imperial, and daring hues.
- We spoke a little while back on trend predictions for the fall season. How do you think those trends were translated for this collection?
The rich, bold, deep hues, creating texture and mixing shades that we spoke about were all apart of François’ vision for the collection. The collection is regal, mesmerizing and decadent just like his leading lady and the face of NARS for Fall 2010, Daphne Guinness.
- How can we translate these trends in real life?
The skin – We’ve been seeing a lot of luminosity in the skin for the past few seasons, But Fall skin is about that velvety matte look with barely-there radiance. (Try NARS Sheer Matte Foundation) You also want to create 3-D skin by contouring, sculpting and adding dimension.
The eyes – The Smokey eye has made its comeback in a few different ways from muted to daring. Use your favorite brown tones, coopers, and mossy shadows to create a subtle smoke or be bold and daring by using charcoals, matte blacks, or deep denim shades.
The Lips – Color, Color, Color! Matte is in and gloss is out. From warm oranges, black cherries, to classic reds. (Try new NARS Pure Matte Lipsticks)
Don’t be afraid to pair these lips with your smoky eye for a chic and stylish look.
The brows – The mighty brow is here to stay. Think old Hollywood, Elizabeth Taylor and Ava Gardner. To create that strong defined arched brow add definition and fill in sparse patches with either a brow pencil or powder
- Please walk us through a few of your favorites and how to achieve using the pieces
Palladium Soft Touch Pencil is the perfect base (smooth it all over the lid) underneath Tzarine Duo Eyeshadow (pressed onto the lid ) for the Femme Fatale smoky trend that is huge this fall. This makes the sultry and edgy eye that’s laced with shimmer perfect for day or night.
Douceur Blush is one of my favorites for the barely there cheek that is defined lightly. The pinkish-brown hue is applied to the hollow of the cheeks while keeping the rest of the skin matte and minimal.
- Finally, please share a beauty tip, we live for them!
For natural contouring and definition to the cheeks use NARS Multiple Bronzers on top of your Sheer Matte Foundation before applying your pressed or loose powder, followed by powder blush (NARS Douceur) in a triangular shape blending down and outwards, this also slenderize the face.
As always, I would like to thank Janice for giving us the inside scoop. The NARS Cosmetics fall collection is available now, both online and in stores.
