That illustrious garment that most women don daily goes by many names, and comes in many different shapes and sizes. Much to the dismay of the general female population, finding the perfect style in a sea of options can be as stressful as a trial by fire. Even more perplexing, sizing adds a complexity to the equation that has many women raising the white flag of defeat. Already, the odds are against us, but still, most staggering are the gaps in sizing options for those whose cups runneth over with feminine bounty. This post is dedicated to the ladies who have a hard time finding the perfect fit.

I am going to preface the rest of this post by saying that I am in a rather unique position when it comes to bras, for I am a very unusual size. I am well over DD, and also much smaller than even a 32. That being said, my bra brands of choice are Freya and Fauve. For those of you who are unfamiliar, both Freya and Fauve fall under the Eveden family, a company that caters to women in the d+ set. Unlike many brands (including VS) that cater to the average-sized, Eveden as a company specializes in styles in the d+ category, with an even wider range of band sizes that go as small as a 28! While other brands in the d+ category sacrifice form for function, Freya, Fauve, Fantasie, and all of the other Eveden brands go beyond offering excellent support, to also offer up options that are bursting with ornate detailing, frilly lace, sumptuous satins, and expert craftsmanship. Well gosh, they had me as soon as I heard that they make my size. That they are gorgeous too, that is the icing on the proverbial cake.

Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of being personally fitted by the fab FIT expert from Eveden, Freddy. The process began with a measuring, and ended with a new understanding of the way proper fit works. Not only did I leave the experience with my true size, but also with some key tips that have, and continue to have, a huge impact on my daily life. As Freddy told me, finding the right size is half the battle. The true victory is properly getting into the bra.

Here are Freddy’s Essentials for a correct fit

• The center front of the bra should lie flat against the breastbone.  This is called “tacking” and will help to support the breasts along with the band.  If the breast tissue is spilling out of the cup (over the top, underneath or at the sides) the cup is simply too small, and she needs to go up a cup.
• The under-wire should sit behind (not on top of) the breast tissue, ensuring that the breasts are fully supported.
• The band should fit snugly across the back (a bit like a good hug).  It should be parallel to the floor, at the same level all around the torso.  If it rides up in the back it is probably too loose, and she needs to go down a band-size.  The band should anchor the weight of the breasts to give the best support possible.

For me, personally, this post is especially relevant. Being so disproportionate, I sometimes hate my body, and I hate the fact that I can’t just stroll into a store and purchase the first pretty thing that crosses my path. I joke about my unusual proportions often, but shopping trips have the ability to reduce me to tears. I leave the store frustrated that nothing fits, and I feel like a freak. For that reason, words fail me when I try to convey just how elated I am to have found brands that cater to women like me, that produce models in my special size, and that make me feel beautiful and well supported. Furthermore, that there is a company that cares about their clients needs and feelings, as much as they do about their product. Thanks to both Freddy, and Eveden, I am not quite so frustrated any more.
