Those of you that have been longtime readers of the blog know that I have been deep in the throes of a passionate, long-term love affair with the few precious pieces of Thierry Mugler’s cosmetic line that I own. Not to belabor the point, but I am really quite enamored with the quality, the feel, and the luxury of the otherwordly aesthetic. But let me step back for a moment, as I digress before I even begin. This post isn’t about the exquisite makeup, instead it is all about the line’s newest fragrance and how truly remarkable it is. Say hello to Womanity.
Elegantly Tough, Fiercely Feminine, Elegantly Enigmatic
While all of the above can very well be called oxymoron’s, so too can they be dubbed apt descriptions for the newest brew from the Mugler fragrance house. The scent is gourmand and fruity overall, with a floral opening that quickly fades away to reveal both fig fruit and fig tree notes. The true surprise comes when the scent begins to settle, and I get a whiff of something earthy, and yet not. Caviar is the secret ingredient, and no, it does not smell fishy. In fact, the caviar provides a faint, cool earthiness that balances the otherwise sweet notes to make this scent even more of a treat.
The bottle is a tactile and visual experience in and of itself. The fragrant elixir comes housed in a pink crystal flacon with embellishments that are both artistically eerie and industrially beautiful. The heavy hardware gives the illusion that molten silver was poured over the top of the bottle, molded, etched, and then engraved, the image of a face adding that final touch. A chain holds the ring that serves as the fragrance’s cap. This is a package worthy of carrying the designer’s signature.
Thierry Mugler’s Womanity is a scent that demands attention, both with its marvelous bottle and its deliciously unusual scent. Womanity is currently available on the Thierry Mugler website in several sizes, and will officially launch at Bloomingdales in August.
