Beauty Resolutions, No More Body Hair with Silk’nSensEpil

    By: Adina

Here is something you will rarely see from me: A sports Analogy.

    Strike 1:
    My hair is dark
    Strike 2:
    My hair is very coarse
    Strike 3:
My hair has an aversion to leaving my body.
And I am Out, so to speak.

You may not know this, but your friendly krasey gal over here just happens to be from one of the hairiest ethnic groups around, Russians. Given my penchant for resembling sasquatch after not shaving for a day, what is a hairy gal to do but test-drive the newest gadget in the war on hair- Silk’n SensEpil?

Silk’n SensEpil is the newest warrior in the beauty gadget market that is designed to kick body hair to the curb.  The first device of its kind- this pink and white wonder delivers home-pulsed light technology to safelydisable growth of the hair follicle. What that means is that regular use of the product will eventually lead to the not-so-untimely death of your body hair.

Ridiculously easy to use, all you need to do is plug the unit in, set the strength of the pulse (the manufacturer recommends starting with the lowest setting at first), set the handheld unit to your skin, and press the button on the handheld console that activates a quick popping sound and a zap to the selected area. The machine will have a short refractory period of about 3-4 seconds, after which you “zap” the next area. Keep in mind that this doesn’t remove the hair on the area, but acts to kill the hair follicles. For that reason, you need to use the unit on shaved skin.

That green window is the spot on which the zap comes from. When applied to the skin, it’s the area covered by the window that is treated.

Now I have tried the no!no!, and came out extremely disappointed with my experience. Not only did I feel a slight sting when it passed over my hair, but I simply could not stand the stench of burning hair. It left the room reeking, my skin reeking, and the device reeking too. Silk’n Sens is different in that you apply the unit to freshly shaved skin so that you don’t get any of the stench. You also don’t get the pain, as I could barely feel each zap. All you really feel is a hint of warmth.

I have been using this about every other week for the past couple of months, and am amazed to see less and less hair on my legs. At this point in time, my hair is only growing back in sparse patches, which I just pay extra-attention to when using the system. In time, I hope to be completely body hair free.

Now this is a bit painful to show you, but I made a point of letting my leg hair grow out for a full 3 weeks- just to show you how awesome the results are. As a reference point, here is my leg before using the system, only after two days of not shaving.

And after 3 weeks of grow-out time after having used silk’n sensepil only twice! Notice the completely bald patches that have not grown back at all! The rest of the hair has taken quite a while to grow back, and with each use I find less hair growing back. By summer, I hope to be completely leg-hair free.

If you had to twist my arm and make me say anything bad about this product, its that you can’t use it on the face, and that my dark-skinned beauties can’t partake in the action since it might alter their pigmentation. Other than those 2 points, I am over-the-moon, head-over-heels, in love with Silk’n SensEpil.

Let’s address the price for a moment, because the $499 price point has a lot of us cringing. Yes, it might be a slightly painful initial outlay, but it is 100% worth it if you hate body hair as much as I do. Trust me, in the end the hit to the wallet is not as painful as waxing, plucking, razor burn, or looking in the mirror to see a five o’clock shadow under your arms or on your legs. The unit rivals professional (and pricey) electroylsis, and the savings in hair-removal toolery and services will add up and make this machine pay for itself many times over. So yes, this machine really is worth it, especially if your goal is long term (permanent) hair removal.

Silk’n SensEpil is available on their website, and at your local Sephora. I highly recommend it if you loathe body hair as much as I do.

Hi Krasey, have you seen any hair growing back lately? Or has your skin been skin clear for a long time? If so, how long?

Dennis, I have admittedly become more lax on the use, but have noticed that hair is still sparse and slower growing. :)

Thanks for the review. Very encouraging indeed! Do you happen to know if it works as well for people with fair skin and light hair (I'm a redhead)?

      Anonymous, I don't see why a fair skinned redhead wouldn't benefit :)

      Hi there!

Just wondering if you had any updates on the Silk’n ??

Also, did you know it had been approved for use on the face? I just purchased one yesterday, but I am in Australia so it will take a while for me to receive it.

Would love to hear from you,

      Marisa

      Hello Marisa,

Thank you so much for your note! I am almost ashamed to admit that I have stopped using it for quite some time, though I am still noticing sparser hair on my legs than ever before.

Am planning another testing trial sometime in the near future. Will most definitely keep you posted!

      hi there!
i wonder how the hair does not grow back after you shave it for preparing to Silk’n treatment? it remains into the skin? or how? you treat and after that, the hair which you just shaved , falls? i can’t understand? please answer!!!!

Alla, first you shave so that there is no hair on the surface of the skin, and then you use the silk’n to prevent the regrowth. With several treatments, hair eventually stops growing back. :)

I have a Silk’n Sensepil and I LOVE it. It worked so great and I could see a noticeable different after only a few applications. Plus it wasn’t really painful. It’s totally worth the money and totally works

Hello, I found your blog about the Silk’n SensEpil while I was researching the product to see if it was worth buying. Your review was very informative and pushed me to buy it. At the end of your review you said it could not be used on the face, but I just bought mine and it says it can be used on the face, maybe mine is a new and improved version. I got it on Groupon.com for $249 just in case you might want to check it out. Great review!!
